Gernot Rohr wants to remain
Technical Adviser of the Super Eagles Gernot Rohr and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) are at loggerheads over the suitable venue for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against South Africa in June.
The Super Eagles of Nigeria kick off their 2019 AFCON qualifying campaign with a home clash against South Africa on Friday, June 9.
Ahead of the qualifier, the Super Eagles boss, Rohr has stated that he wants his team to play at the Nest of Champions Stadium in Uyo where the Super Eagles have played their last two home games.
The NFF are however worried over the poor condition of the playing pitch which they think might affect the performance of the Super Eagles.
The Adokie Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt had been planned as an alternative by the NFF but Rohr’s preference had forced the NFF to remain with Uyo.
To stick to Rohr’s preference, the president of the NFF, Amaju Pinnick will meet with Governor of Akwa Ibom, Udom Emmanuel to plead with him to kick off repairs on the stadium to make it ready for CAF’s stadium inspections.
The Super Eagles’ unbeaten record at the Nest of Champions Stadium under Rohr is a major reason why he wants the game to be played there.
