The new trailer for The Shape of Water, the movie that brought Guillermo del Toro a Golden Lion in Venice, is just out and has everybody thrilled.
With a star-studded cast (Sally Hawkins, Octavia Spencer, Doug Jones, Michael Shannon, Richard Jenkins and Michael Stuhlbarg), and a score by Alexandre Desplat, the director (who gave us Pan’s Labyrinth, Hellboy and Pacific Rim amongst many others), is back with another potential blockbuster.
This new trailer, as aesthetically perfect as the previous one, highlights the tensions between the characters in a fantasy story set in Cold War America. Alongside the love affair between Elisa, a mute laboratory worker and the beast, an aquatic creature caught by researchers (which we finally see for the first time), it also shows the violence and the nefarious dominance of the male characters, including a very pissed off Michael Shannon.
Contrary to the first trailer, the female lead now take centre stage and reveals herself to be a strong woman, bent on defying authority despite her disability.
The Shape of Water will be part of the London Film Festival on October 10.
